A little bit about us

Aboriginal Elders and Community Care Services Inc. became officially incorporated on 28 July 1995, bringing together the Aboriginal Home Care Program and the Aboriginal Elders Village.

Planning for the establishment of the Aboriginal Elders Village commenced in 1989.

After six years of extensive consultation, planning and sourcing funds, the Aboriginal Elders Village officially opened on 5 December 1995 by the then Minister of Human Services/Health, the Hon. Carmen Lawrence.

Since 1995, the two programs of Aboriginal Home Care and the Aboriginal Elders Village continued to develop and grow to meet the demand for services by our ageing community.

Strong governance and management focus has enabled the organisation to increase its funding, receive good quality reviews from our funding bodies and meet all accountability and reporting requirements.

In 2014 we were able to secure funding for our Community Visitor Scheme to enable us to provide visitors to socially isolated Elders in the community.

In 2015, our long standing Home and Community Care (HACC) program transitioned to the Commonwealth Home Support Program as part of the national aged care reforms.

At the same time we became an “Approved Provider” and have obtained Home Care Packages to enable our organisation to provide a continuum of care from entry level Commonwealth Home Support Program through to Home Packaged Care then to residential care at the Aboriginal Elders Village.

In 2015, we celebrate 20 years of incorporation and service to the Aboriginal community and we look forward to the future.
